Set Up Domain Controller

In this post, I will walkthrough configuring a domain controller. So, let's click Add Roles and Features. Then choose Next until you get to choose Active Directory Domain Services.

Add Roles and Features

Just leave this with "Role-based or feature-based installation."

Role-based Installation

Once you choose "Active Directory Domain Service," the prompt will ask you to Add Features for the required role. Just click the button "Add Features" since these features will be required for the server role to be installed.

Add Features

Cool, now that the installation is complete, click "Promote this server to a domain controller."

Promote Server

Select “Add a new forest” and type in a domain name. The domain is local, so you can make it any domain you want. It will not be accessible from the Internet. I will be using domain.xyz as my root domain.

New Forest

On Domain Controller Options, type a memorable Directory Service Restore Mode password. Now click "Next" until you reach the Prerequisites Check.

Domain Controller Options

Once the checks are complete, click the “install” button and wait for the installation to complete.

Installation

After it completes, your server will reboot and successfully create an Active Directory domain and configure a domain controller. If you click the “Tools” tab, there should be more tools available that were not there before.
